Svadisthana Chakra & COVID-19

We studied Monarch butterflies in the “Blue Ribbon” public elementary school i attended in Northwest, DC. Understanding our environment, nature, science was a significant portion of our education.

Science, again, is demanding our attention.

We have to be more mindful of how we care for our individual health — wash our hands, avoid spreading common germs to the vulnerable surfaces of our face, spend only what you need to spend (read: eat only what you need to eat) — or it may be an insufferable, lonely death.

The news says so. Although, many have opted for the denial/defiance/delusion response.

Since it is a respiratory issue at the heart of the pandemic, the instinct is to first heal the anahata or visuddha chakra. However, there are underlying symptoms that are likely manifesting in a blocked sacral chakra — the svadisthana.

The svadisthana regulates our sense of taste — often lost among those who contract the ‘Rona — and our sense of security. And it is fear that is the dominant emotion perpetuating the pandemic, presenting itself as hoarding, stress-posting on social media, running around without a mask because reality be damned.

A free svadisthana, a vibrant orange color, is a balance of the passion of our muladhara (red) and the wisdom of our gut chakra (yellow). It is a balanced sensuality, sense of self (ego), and sense of safety (harmony with our surroundings). It is the home of our reproductive organs.

To unblock it seemingly requires too much reliance on each other — the burden of our oneness — however, there are basic ideas we may employ to at least feel more in control. Foods like citrus and curry — the colors of our lower three chakras — fuel our immune health.

Virabhadrasana II and badha konasana supports our confidence, yet humbles our arrogance.

Chanting the chakra’s seed mantra, “vam” quiets and focuses the mind inward, when your Insta, emails, and TV are projecting anxiety.
